In light of Get to Know Your Customer Day (observed annually on the third Thursday of each quarter) we are diving into our relationship with one of our longest standing suppliers, and fellow family business, Nortrade Foods Ltd.
Nortrade, otherwise known as ‘the seafood specialist’, has been supplying top quality frozen seafood to wholesalers, cash and carry’s and manufacturers for over 40 years, including Seafish UK. Our founder Bob Carter started doing business with John Greig shortly after he established Nortrade in 1983.
It is a mutual relationship where Nortrade have supplied Seafish UK with seafood that is then processed into retail products, such as the Lobster, Crayfish, Crab, Mac and Cheese for Aldi UK. Additionally, Nortrade supply the prawns for the Thai Cod, Prawn and Garlic Mini Cakes. Seafish UK are always on hand with developing new products for Nortrade, more recently the spectacular Spicy Crab Cakes, which were up for the “Best Food Service Starter/Side Plate/Ingredient” Product at the 2023 British Frozen Food Federation Awards.
However, the relationship we have with Nortrade goes deeper than just business as our Sales and Marketing Director Emma Acklam is in fact married to Ben Acklam, Commercial Director at Nortrade Foods, and they have two wonderful daughters together, Molly (10) and Matilda (7).
Emma said: “It’s fantastic that Ben and I can continue to grow the relationship started by my dad between Nortrade and Seafish all those years ago.
“The spicy crab cake being nominated for a BFFF award last year was a real highlight for us both professionally and personally and I look forward to seeing what new heights we can take the respective businesses to in 2024.”
